Guided Hiking Tour Through Glacier National Park
Timberline’s heart and soul is in the magnificient national parks of the west, and Glacier National Park has played a significant role in the development of our tours over the last 40 years. Starting with cycling Going-to-the-Sun Road, and reaching farther into the backcountry with our hiking programs, this area has been an absolute favorite of ours. The continuing restrictions of group travel and the significant inflation of stays in the grand lodges are a challenge, but we cannot deny the breathtaking beauty and incredible accomplishment of completing a hiking tour in the area!
Waterton Lakes National Park
Our hiking tour assembles in Whitefish, MT, and we start with a shuttle into Canada and an afternoon hike in the Waterton area. Two more hikes in the Waterton park bring us to spectacular, high alpine lakes and dramatic mountain passes. We move back south for a stay in Glacier National Park at the historic St. Mary’s Inn to begin a point-to-point hike taking us over 7,000 ft passes and down to Many Glaciers Hotel. From this base we take our last two hikes up to frozen lakes and glaciers. This is a challenging tour with distances up to 14 miles and elevation gains up to 4,000 ft. and trails that include steep drop-offs and a small amount of scrambling. It is not for the casual hiker, yet the rewards are well worth the effort for the hearty.
