Cycle the Columbia River Watershed
The Columbia/Kootenay watershed is one of the world’s great river networks and by far the largest in the Pacific Northwest. It ranks as the greatest source of hydroelectric power in North America and it carves its course through some of the continent’s most spectacular landscape. “Super, Natural British Columbia” is the province’s tagline. It’s not just marketing, BC is truly spectacular.
Jagged peaks, steeply angled flanks, and year-round snowcaps are Selkirk trademarks. This range is home to absolute world-class skiing in the winter and an unparalleled playground in the summer. Most importantly, removed from any major metropolitan area, the regions’ lightly traveled roads create a perfect venue for cycling, immersed in some of North America’s most breathtaking, jaw-dropping alpine majesty. Our eight days of riding will take us along and across the long fingers of the Kootenay, Slocum and Arrow Lakes. We’ll pass through historic Castlegar at the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers, the historic hot springs village of Ainsworth, and towns with native Okanagen heritage. We’ll cross the Monashee mountains, kiss the Purcells, and have a last hurrah over Sherman Pass – the highest year-round road in Washington. We’ll stay in trendy Nelson, the resort town of Kelowna, and Osoyoos in the middle of Canada’s wine country. A true Canadian Rockies experience you can brag about.
