Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula Group Hiking Tour
Alaska, perhaps more than any other region in North America, is cloaked in a mystical aura that ignites the imagination. To some extent, that aura obviously is the product of Alaska’s incredible, incomparable natural beauty and physical magnificence. Its mountains, glaciers, coastline and wilderness are without equal. Alaska’s irresistible attraction is that it symbolizes the “Last Frontier,” a last opportunity to experience the wilderness in its most pristine, unspoiled expression. The start of the tour we travel down the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet and continue south to Seward, the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. We start our hiking with an incredible walk along Resurection Bay. A crown jewel of the tour is an all day boat tour into the icy waters and along the lush forests around the vast expanse of the Kenai Fjords. The boat captain knows where to steer us to the best wildlife sightings and glacier viewing. Next day we hike up into the Chugach Mountains to view the largest icefield entirely in the U.S. – Harding Icefield. We will hike up to the edge of the Exit Glacier for an upclose view of the awe of ice. After that we transfer to Girdwood near the Alyeska resort, for a taste of Alaska luxury*. It is here that we can hike a small portion of the famed Iditarod Trail, as well as other explorations of the area. Our hikes include gorges, peaks, mountain lakes, box canyons, glaciers and icefields, and perhaps the opportunity to see a bear scramble through the brush of a mountain valley.
Please note: The base tour price does not include our 2 nights hotel in Girdwood, which comes as an add on. Prices for Girdwood hotel options range from $200/night in a quaint Ski Inn room, to $1,500/night for a luxury suite in the Alyeska resort. Hotel price will be set at time of booking based on preference and availability.
