The Adirondack Mountains provide a stunning backdrop for this cycling tour in the northern section of  New York State.  The area is steeped in history, from the hunting escapades of the native American tribes of Iroquois and Algonquin, to the first explorers of the rugged country, to the architecture and furnishings of the Great Camps and the rustic lodges that still take visitors today, to the centers for summer and winter recreation that have been luring visitors for many decades.  Our tour follows the rolling, winding roads from resort town to resort town.  The cool breezes from the many lakes that we cycle past keeps the temperature pleasant, and the foliage will be turning into the brilliant kaleidoscope of fall colors.  The layover day in Lake Placid allows for all kinds of diversions from boating, to hiking, to Olympics venues and museums, to lounging in the ubiquitous Adirondack chair.   This area became the escape from the city heat for wealthy New Yorkers in the late 1800s and remains today as a welcome retreat in this popular “forever wild” state park.
