ITINERARY

Day 1: Tour of the Aspen Valley

+

Meals: Snacks, Dinner

Distance: 20 miles

Elevation Gain: 1,500 feet

Largest Single Elevation Gain: 220 feet

After a shuttle from Grand Junction into Aspen, we will get fit with our bikes and take a test ride. Then it is off on a loop that will take us past the base of all four of the area’s ski resorts, as well as the community of Woody Creek, home to the famous Woody Creek Tavern and their fabulous tamales and margaritas. We complete the route by cruising on the bike trail back into the town of Aspen. This is a classic ski town where urbanization and seclusion, elegance and quaintness, and art and nature all converge, and you will want to explore its many faces.

Day 2: Maroon Bells Road

+

Meals: Breakfast, Snacks, Dinner

Distance: 20 miles

Elevation Gain: 1,800 feet

Largest Single Elevation Gain: 1,500 feet

Our second day will start with a ride up the moderately graded valley to the Maroon-Snowmass trailhead. This location must be the most photographed spot in all of Colorado, with the distinctive Maroon Bells peaks rising above the Aspen trees, all reflected in the placid waters of Maroon Lake. The road is closed to traffic except for the shuttle bus, so take your time and enjoy the ride. Once at the lake, you may want to take some time to walk a short trail or two, and probably take a couple thousand photos. When you are ready to return, you'll be back in Aspen in no time, with plenty of time to enjoy the town and its many restaurants, shops, and parks. You can even take a ride on the gondola overlooking the ski area if you like.

Day 3: Down the Rio Grande Trail

+

Meals: Breakfast, Snacks

Distance: 21.4 miles

Elevation Gain: 310 feet

Largest Single Elevation Gain: 51 feet

Our last day of the tour starts from the center of Aspen and jumps on the Rio Grande Trail. This multi-use trail follows the former Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, through the beautiful Roaring Fork Valley corridor. It is a downhill ride through the narrow valley, to the community of Basalt. If you are not ready to quit, you can continue on the path to Carbondale, or all the way down to Glenwood Springs. Otherwise, we will provide a shuttle to Glenwood where you can enjoy a lunch and maybe a dip in the world reknowned Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. After your relaxing time in Glenwood, we return you to Grand Junction in the van.
