North Carolina Wine Country Bike Tour

The wine industry in the Carolinas has been around for quite some time, steadily growing and improving the product over the years into award winning wines, vineyards, and wineries.  Yet, the area offers beautiful destinations while still enjoying the feeling of undiscovered treasures waiting to be explored.  In the Yadkin valley – North Carolina’s first AVA – you’ll be welcomed with southern hospitality and treated as family in the historic towns filled with independently owned shops, and the connecting countryside flowing with vines.  As the inspiration for Andy Griffith’s Mayberry, the region will delight with landmarks, hometown charm, fine arts, country crafts, nostalgic mercantile, and an eclectic assortment of restaurants.  We are excited to welcome this new tour into our family of cycling itineraries showcasing the best regions of the country for active, cycling vacations.

Our Bike Tour Schedule

We spend 6 days riding through beautiful landscapes of vineyards, river valleys and quiet country towns.  The routes are mostly loops, with multiple versions available on most days.  The loops also allow us to extend our hotel stays to 3 nights each.  We stay in the small towns of Mt. Airy and Elkin, in the heart of the Yadkin Valley wine region.  Each night we will have the opportunity to sample the wines of the region, either at vineyard restaurants, or local restaurants serving the region’s wines. Each day we will cycle the rolling countryside, at your own pace, along designated cycle routes, and following the courses of well-known local bike events.  Situated in the middle of the state, between the formidable heights of the Blue Ridge mountains and the flats of the North Carolina shoreline, we’ll enjoy the “just right” undulations on the unspoiled country lanes through quintessential Small Town, U.S.A.
