Ireland, the land of green, Guinness and Gaelic! The Republic of Ireland is an independent country covering 5/6 of the island of Ireland. The history of this country is older than the pyramids of Egypt and full of upheaval, turmoil and romance. The island has several mountain ranges surrounding a central plain and its climate is free of extremes in temperature which produces lush vegetation. The thick woodlands of the past were eliminated by the long history of civilizations that have occupied the land, rendering the wide expanses today that sustain the innumerable sheep and cows and provide extensive views.
In this country that has been cultivated for over 5000 years, leave it to Timberline to find its most remote areas and largest wilderness expanses. Our tour to the northwestern corner of the country will explore bogs, fields, mountains, quiet country roads, lakes, streams, cliff walks, small towns and national parks. We will be using a local guide and a local driver who will be sure to fill us with folklore and quirky tales. We will follow much of the Western Way, a long distance route from Oughterard to Ballycastle in counties Galway and Mayo. The entire way is over 200 km of trails, country lanes, some roads and paths. We have hand picked the best sections of this trail, that avoids the paved routes and offers the best selections of views, variety of terrain and samples of this remote western region. Then we have added on treks in two national parks, some coastal walks, and stays in local areas that see few tourists, which all combine to create an amazing and unique adventure in Ireland!
