With more coastline than California, 3478 miles, touring the Maine coast holds so many possibilities. We will cycle the best of the Maine Coast, starting in small town Higgins Beach outside of Portland, through the quiet elegance of Brunswick and up the coast to Bar Harbor. We will visit some of the most scenic of Maine’s 57 operating lighthouses, a fascinating link to the region’s nautical history. The tour will reach out-of-the-way places like Clark Island, Pemaquid Point and Sprucehead. We may even meet the lobsterman who caught our lunch during our visit to Young’s Lobster pound in Belfast. Exploring famous coastal towns like Boothbay Harbor, Blue Hill, Camden and Bar Harbor is on the agenda. A victory lap through Acadia National Park will be a fitting finish for this new Coast of Maine cycling tour. Daily ride distances can be customized by adding or subtracting extra excursions to the many points of land protruding into the sea.
Overnights are in stately B&B’s, hidden resorts on the shoreline, and classic New England Inns, with elegant dining to match. Riding will wander in and out of secluded peninsulas jutting into the Atlantic, along the lobster laden waters of the coast, watching fisherman put in a line, kayakers out for a paddle, and strollers enjoying seagulls, surf and lighthouses. Every day will be a new experience full of quiet cycling over rolling hills, amazing seafood dinners and other New England favorites, and the warmth of New England hospitality.
