Denver, CO (June 15, 2014) Timberline Adventures’ guides in Colorado and Utah will begin offering custom trips through Detour by Backcountry.com, a new online outdoor adventure marketplace.
Detour offers an online platform to connect consumers directly to outdoor guides, which helps ensure an authentic experience tailored to the customer’s goals. A service of Backcountry.com, the largest online specialty retailer of premium outdoor gear, Detour currently offers trips in Utah, Colorado, the Northeast, and California.
“Detour provides a direct way for us match our custom excursions with independent travelers searching for something unique,” says Timberline Adventures’ co-owner Dave Harris, who will personally guide many of the trips.
Timberline Adventures has been guiding active travel tours for 32 years. The company offers over 60 small group bicycle trips and hiking treks a year in the most scenic landscapes of North America (with the odd trip in Europe). Timberline Adventures was recognized with the 2013 National Geographic 50 Tours of a Lifetime Award.
“Having guides from a venerable operation like Timberline Adventures participating with us adds to Detour’s clout and credibility,” says Backcountry.com CMO Scott Ballantyne.
In Colorado and Utah, Timberline’s offerings on Detour will range from easily accessible day hikes at lesser-known locations around the Denver area, to multi-day cycling excursions in Colorado’s epic mountain interior. Both hike and bike trips will be offered in Utah’s legendary southern canyonlands.
“The San Juan mountains are one of my favorite places to ride in Colorado,” says Harris. “The passes we climb are not for beginners, but the jaw-dropping beauty of the San Juans provides ample reward for the effort.”
Although Moab is famous for mountain biking, it is also the gateway to Canyonlands and Arches National Parks – a hikers’ paradise. Carved by the great Colorado and Green Rivers, the area is sculpted with natural arches, spires, towers, and endless miles of colorful slickrock. Whether by bike or on foot, Detour’s users will be in good hands with Timberline Adventures’ knowledgeable guides.
