Joseph O’Leary began his professional guiding career in 1993 after graduating from Purdue University with a BA in Kinesiology. He spent the bulk of the 90s based in the New River Gorge, West Virginia before migrating to the Pacific Northwest and the San Juan Islands in the late 90s, and then to Boulder, Colorado in 2000 where he continues to call home.
Joe’s guiding specialties include rivers (whitewater rafting and kayaking), trails (hiking, backpacking, road cycling, mountain biking), coastal waters (sea kayaking), and adventure-based corporate team building. He is also an avid skier and desert canyon explorer. His ongoing personal travels and expeditions include multi-day river trips, long distance cycling and backpacking, and general global travel.
In addition to guiding, Joe is a writer, editor, and nature photographer. He is married with four children and an almost-empty nest.
